River with riparian buffer

Riparian Enhancement

Riparian enhancement assistance incentivizes landowners to enhance and protect water quality, fish habitat and stream stability through the use of riparian buffers.

Riparian buffers consist of diverse plantings of native shrubs and trees along waterways, serving to reduce erosion, filter contaminants reduce water temperature, store carbon and create terrestrial and aquatic habitat for wildlife, invertebrate species, fish, and other organisms.

Is there a stream on your property?

Stewardship pays!

  • Buffer widths range from 50 - 180 ft. Technicians will help determine an appropriate buffer width for your property.

  • Cost-share is often available for eligible activities involved in implementing riparian buffers such as planting trees and establishing fencing and animal watering stations.

  • We are happy to provide technical assistance and answer any questions you may have, regardless of if you decide to plant a riparian buffer.
